The Cub's Lair

Be myself, be happy — An engibear's journey through Cloud Native, AI, and life.

Older people often like to say, “I’ve watched so-and-so grow up since they were a child.” Although I am not particularly old, it’s no exaggeration for me to say that I’ve watched Sina Weibo grow up from its infancy.

Today, I happened to read Bing Shu’s (炳叔) commentary on Sina Weibo. He showered it with praise, which honestly felt a bit like overhyping. Still, for Sina Weibo to become what it is today was truly no small feat.

Some people say that when your hobby becomes your job, it turns into a complete tragedy. I didn’t believe it at first, so I gave it a shot. As it turns out, that saying has a whole lot of truth to it.

The things I used to love doing are now what I do every single day, completely structured into tasks and pipelines. I admit that having a personal interest gave me a massive learning advantage, but right now, I am genuinely feeling exhausted. Yet, strangely enough, my intellectual curiosity remains unfulfilled.

I keep wondering why this is. The things I used to do have completely lost their original flavor; the learning atmosphere I once enjoyed is long gone. The joy that work used to bring has faded away entirely…

But I still love my passion. Often, I want to build the cool ideas bouncing around in my head, but instead, I spend every day writing seemingly meaningless code for the company and fixing one predicted bug after another. These tasks occupy every single second of my time. I really can’t fathom what the higher-ups are thinking, as they have their own corporate agendas. But one thing is for sure: I don’t want to become like them. This current state is definitely not what I want.

For a happy bear, when something doesn’t taste right, you have to be brave enough to say no and go search for a jar of honey that’s actually to your liking~

http://bai.sohu.com/ is Sohu’s new SNS, currently still in beta. In truth, building internet products is just like developing software: you really have to treat your product like your own child and put your heart and soul into it. This level of dedication is vividly shown in Sohu’s Bai (白社会). Looking at it makes me feel quite embarrassed for my current product team colleagues and certain managers.

It feels like I’ve been incredibly busy for a really long time, and I haven’t sat down to have a proper think in ages. It wasn’t until I saw a message left by my mentor today that I realized I really need to do some deep reflection. Sometimes we focus so much on whether we can take off that we completely lose track of which direction we should actually be flying.

Day in and day out, I’m just running after projects, jumping around without really finding what area I truly fit into—switching back and forth between frontend and backend. While there was that brief moment of joy when a project wrapped up a few days ago, I suddenly realized how far away I’ve drifted from real, deep technology. If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward. I don’t feel like I’m making progress, which means I must be regressing. My current routine has completely ground down the passion and love I once had for technology, making me feel so much older than I am. This isn’t what I wanted. It looks like I need to figure out a way to break out of this terrible rut~

Out of pure curiosity, because I recently wrote a wicked little program, I searched Baidu today for “Happy Farm Bot” and found tons of pages. However, once I clicked into them, I noticed that most of the bots had already been patched and disabled.

It seems the Happy Farm development team’s efforts have been paying off lately. Though, clearly, they haven’t pulled out their ultimate weapon yet, since the Flash client can still be decompiled and analyzed for clues.

Even so, a listing on Taobao really blew me away: “Original price 20, now only 8 Yuan,” openly selling a Happy Farm bot.

A recent project encountered a ghostly, bizarre “Page Cannot Be Displayed” issue. Here is a summary of the potential culprits:

  1. Encoding Issues: Mismatched or corrupt character encoding is a very common cause of this issue. A page might load perfectly fine in some browsers, yet throw a “Page Cannot Be Displayed” error in others.
