Is Technical Expertise Ever Actually Respected in China?

This is a bit of a rant, prompted by a news article I read today that left me absolutely furious. Maybe it’s because I’m a developer myself, but it brought to mind so many similar situations I’ve witnessed, heard of, or personally experienced. It led me to a conclusion that might sound extreme to some, but here it is: right now, technical expertise is simply not respected in China. Real, cutting-edge technology is ignored or never actually put to use, while a bunch of self-proclaimed “scientists” waste their days doing god-knows-what. Academic fraud, fake research papers… what is this world coming to?

I don’t know if this counts as worrying about the fate of the nation or just needless fretting. But the tech environment here desperately needs a clean-up. We need far more genuine, practical technology to actually boost productivity, and far less sycophantic hype creating useless economic bubbles. When will our society learn to be more pragmatic? Every time I think about this, it genuinely breaks my heart.
