Detective Conan Movie 12: Full Score of Fear — Review & Thoughts
I just watched Detective Conan’s 12th movie, and it gave me a completely different vibe compared to the past ones.
Plot Summary
The main plot of this film revolves around revenge. A father, an excellent piano tuner with absolute pitch, seeks vengeance for his musician son. His actions stand in stark contrast to the forgiveness and understanding shown by his late son’s girlfriend.
In terms of deduction and solving the case, the plot is somewhat average with no major mind-blowing tricks (though Ai’s recorder clue to Conan was pretty neat). However, accompanied by flashbacks of Shinichi and Ran’s past argument and reconciliation, it still holds a decent amount of “ShinRan” shipping weight. At the end, Sonoko’s monologue about what a best friend truly means highlights the theme of friendship nicely.
Overall, this movie feels less like a classic Detective Conan film than any of the first ten. There are also far fewer original music tracks, with several world-famous classical pieces used instead. The most disappointing part has to be the opening sequence; when the Movie 12 logo is revealed, it just doesn’t carry that epic, jaw-dropping impact anymore.
My Thoughts
Personally, I feel Movie 12 lacks the thrilling action, heart-pounding moments, and brilliant deductions of the older films (and the recent TV episodes are facing the same issue). I guess Gosho Aoyama might have lost some of his youthful passion, which is understandable. But if this keeps up, Conan might just become mediocre and fail to excite fans. Rather than letting it drag on, I’d honestly prefer to see him give us a spectacular finale!
Theme Song: “Amazing Grace”, a beautiful piece featured in Movie 12.
